Dual Credit

What is Dual Credit?

Dual credit is a process by which a high school student enrolls in a college course and receives simultaneous academic credit for the course from both the college and the high school. Students demonstrating college readiness through a college placement exam can earn college and high school credits in the same course by attending classes at their high school, on a Lone Star College campus, and/or online. Dual credit students can also earn college-level certifications while in high school that can lead to immediate job opportunities.

Students in SST High schools may simultaneously obtain college credit and high school credit through an agreement between Lone Star College and SST Schools. In order to be enrolled in a dual credit course, students must pass the Texas Higher Education Assessment test or other qualifying tests, and pay the required tuition to Lone Star College before the course begins. The agreement between Lone Star College and SST schools includes the following points:

  • Students must meet all of SST Schools attendance and academic requirements
  • SST Schools students must have passed the TSIA test (or be exempt) (Click here to learn about TSIA test)
  • The student's course credit and grade will be held in escrow until the student graduates from high school and presents Lone Star College with an official transcript verifying graduation
  • The grade earned by the student will be defined by the grading policies of SST Schools and Lone Star College
